I would say nay personally. Unfortunately guitar brand doesn't count for too much in todays market-low line guitars are just that; regardless of who made it. I would say that with Jackson if you get a higher end or mid range instrument-you're getting a solid product. It's their(and every other manufacturer's) cheap line that I tend to stray from. They all make nice products-you just have to know which ones they are.
My friend got a very nice RR3T for $200 in a GC-so the deals are out there man. Don't settle for 'entry level' guitars at mid level prices($379+ for beginner guitars?!)

This is information I could have used beforehand-but it still depends on your preference and what you like to play. Not like country can only be played on a strat or metal could only be played on a Jackson, but what style will you be developing your skills around. If you are looking for a more blues oriented playing style I would say a Fender Strat or Tele would help influence that-whereas a Rhoads V will make you want to bust out some shred licks a bit more.
Go sit and play all the guitars you are looking into purchasing and see which one really "speaks to you". It isn't literally going to be all like "hey, buy me" but you will just know which guitar is meant for you when you play it. A lot of factors determine this; a few things to think about when looking-comfort, playability, appearance.

Comfort-of course the guitar should feel and be comfortable to play and hold. If not you won't like to play it-hence you won't play it.

Playability-Does the guitar feel good to play(this can be changed with different string gauges, action). Neck shape, scale length, type of bridge, there are many different things that can affect this from instrument to instrument.

Appearance-While some may discredit a guitars looks being important, here's the point-if you don't like the way it looks, why would you want it? A guitars pickups can be changed to alter tones-so strictly appearance here. A guitar that you enjoy looking at will make you want to pick it up and play it more. If it sounds better than it looks, that's what we call a win-win.

Hope my little criteria checklist can help you out in the guitar shop next time. Remember to use a good amp-not amazing. An amazing amp will make any guitar sound amazing-it's why it's an amazing amp. haha
