pulling off

question about pulling off technique:

i understand the concept of pulling off. ring a note, and then pull off your finger on a higher fret to let a lower fret below it ring. the only problem is that when i pull off the note is pretty much dead. the lower note after pulling off is not ringing with the same intensity as the original note.

this is the opposite of what happens with hammering-on, where the higher note almost always rings as loudly as the lower note before it.

is this a problem with my technique? or something that requires more sustain in the guitar/signal? because i hear songs with pull-offs and in order for me to replicate the sound i always have to pluck the string a second time after pulling off (which isn't technically a pull off)

I don't know exactly what your doing but when i first started doing pull-offs I didn't realize that you actually have to grab the string with your left hand finger and in essence try to pull it off, not just lift up your finger and it takes a while to get the hang of. hope that helped

I agree with nater2. You get a better pull off if you bend the string just a little before you do the pull off. Unless you're doing a fast trill.

AHHH!!!! yeeeaaaasssss i get it now. so in other words, you are re-plucking the string as you pull your higher-fretted finger off of the string. i'll have to play around with that when i get home. genius!
