The notes D B and A. Here's what I come up with. Either a B min7 drop the 5. Or a D6 drop the 3rd. As an A chord it don't seem to work at all. Please let me know if it does? Is all of this correct then? |

e----7-------------
B----10----------3-
G----7-----------2-
D----9-----------0-
A----------------2-
E------------------
Playing either version you get Bm7 no 5th
There's many combos but Bm7 no 5 sounds best |

Why not the D6 no 3rd? |

It could be either but with no 3rd it kinda leaves me wanting a little more. You could do this to get the 3rd
e------+---7--
B------+---7--
G---4--+---7--
D---4--+---7--
A---5--+------
E---5--+------

But the 5th (in that D6 no third) is equevelent to the power chord and yet more pleasant to the ears. Isn't it? |

Just my opinion..when you are using partial chords there are NO RIGHTS but if it sounds good the way it is being applied it's OK to use it. On the other hand if it sounds like crap then it's WRONG. I use partial chords a lot when picking triads but want to get a different voice in the chord, I may want to stress the 6 or the 9 just to get that feeling or mood across. Can you send a tab showing how you make the chord? |
