How long should a keep a set of strings on my guitar before they go dead?
My use The anti rust and long lasting ones(£11)
But sometimes i use the normal ones (about£6)

What do u think?

Changing them once a month is good.

I always use a product called fast fret (GHS). It is a kind of brush wich cleans the strings and brightens the sound. I feel the strings also stay in a better condition over a longer period of time. Has anyone else tried it???

depends on how much you play i guess, on old strings not only the sound suffers, ive got an sg, and with old strings the intonation seems to wander as well, but when they go black, feel bad or sound dull is a good sign to change

I keep mine until they stop staying in tune. It depends on what style you play most for me. I play mostly with some kind of effect or distortion, so the 'new string sound' doesn't translate much. If you play mostly clean or acoustic sounding tones, then you'll notice them wear out much faster. Another factor is, how affordable it is to change them often enough to always have the new string sound.

You mean you got to change the strings every month?! I have the same strings for two years. Does it make a ifference that I play a Classic Guitar?

wow! 2 years.. how does your guitar play? i never played a classical guitar before but i do think that changing string depends on time you spent on playing. before i used to change the string of my acoustic guitar once a month but lately i practiced like 10 hours a day. so now i change mine like almost every 2 weeks. i love mine shiny and new! lol =P

I always try to get a new set on before I play in public. I try to change them a few days before I play. Yes!!! once a month with average play is good for bronze strings. If you don't like the way new strings sound on your guitar I would keep trying different brands and gauges.

I don't know for sure but nylon strings won't break down as fast as bronze strings. Bronze strings pick up oil from your hands and the oil corrodes the strings and affects the sound. Even elixir's (long lasting or coated strings) will break down. The low strings are coated but the B and E string are not so some of your strings sound fresh and two are dead.

I'm sure that fresh strings on a classical guitar will make a difference because the oils on your hands still get on the strings but I don't think they need to be changed as often.

I used fast fret a long time ago and never really noticed a difference so I stopped buying it.

I've had my guitar for almost 3 years now, and all the strings except for the low E string (which has broken twice) is as it came when I got it! The strings still look, play and sound the same, and so I don't see the point in paying £6 for a new set of strings and spending ages fitting them every month. I guess its different for acoustic players, but when you play an electric with FX then at the end of the day it sounds just the same.

I change my strings about once every 3 wk.s to a month. When they start sounding dull and hard to pick. However, before any kind of gig or public performance I change my strings the day before so they're steadily in tune and look brand new. This gives you a better sound and looks more proffesional (a lot of pros change theme every single day! O_O)

3 months, maybe even six months for hgih quality strings is a good run. 2 years...thats pushing it...nah, sorry, thats frankly right off the deep end :/ lol. Especially on an acoustic. I'd reccomend a fresh set of strings.

I just changed my strings last week after about 3+ years. It's funny but it's actually a kinda new experience for me. LOL!
I must say the sound is very very different now, it's very clear, and the strings also look new, cause the old ones were all kinda brown from the corrosion.
I don't why, but just after 3-4 days, the A string got "used" and much thinner between the 2nd and 3rd fret. That happened to the old strings, too. Does that happen to any of you guys, too?

eeeeee, don't ask me!

you know, it was quiet a discovery when I found out they actually had to be changed without being broken. I found out from this topic. LOL

Seems odd to buy a whole new set of strings just to use one. Then when the same string breaks again to have to buy another new set. You can't know what new strings sound like if you have had the same set on since you bought the guitar. The strings change so subtly over time you don't notice until you change them. Also there comes a point when the strings refuse to be tuned. They get stretched to the limit and fall flat and break when tuned. After a little practice it should only take a half hour or less to clean and restring.

Emm.. No chance at all. I change mine each 3-4th week because I see, hear and notice the differences between new and old strings. They look dirty and has no sustain and are more heavy to bend.
If you change them you'll notice the difference very, very much.

I use to change my strings about once a month but I got laid off so I have not changed them in about 6 months now. I have a lot of guitars so it gets pricey if I do them all now. I have been limiting my self to useing one or two of mine so that I dont have to change them as much until I get back on my feet then I will probley go though and change them all and keep it up on them again about every month on the ones I play. I notice a difference in the playing and sound if they go to long with a new set but will just have to wait for now.
