Right so in my music technology class at school, one of the peices we had to do is to take an original song and remake it in a different style using only MIDI. so when it came round to me doing it i got I'm No Angel by Dido in the style of RNB. as i dont post much of my own stuff i thoguht id start now :)

so here is what ive done so far on it.

what do you think? how could i maybe improve it? i know most of you dont really listen to rnb but dont slate it for what genre it is, just listen. any critisism welcome, thanks.

PS sorry its in technique :S would a mod possibly move it please?

Sounds really good. I'm not familiar with the original, but what you've done is really good though. You might get a call from Chris Cornell soon. Changed the catagory for you by the way.

Yeah, they used to play White Flag quite a bit on TV a few years ago when it came out. Thank You is good as well, Eminem sampled it in Stan.

@JCB,
I just went to youtube and listened to the original. Then I plugged your version in and I think you did a fantastic job! You played all that yourself on a keyboard? wow! Wish I could do that. BRAVO
Can you tell me the process you went through?

basically we were just given the score sheet for the main melody of the song and the chords. i then brain stormed main aspects of RNB whichh include things like counter melodies etc etc. and then at school we have a whole room of imac computers which have the recording program logic on it. they have midi keyboards plugged into it which then allows me to choose from an extremely large amount of timbres. after that i just made it up as i went along hehe. i also listened to alot of rnb such as justin timberlake during the time i was making it.

That's a real sacrifice that is!

Were you restricted to RnB or could you choose any genre? I always used to choose reggae when I had to do something like that!

RNB or 80's rock as well as
Im no angel - dido or Light my fire - The Doors

Haha, so it is, I didn't notice that earlier when I watched the video. I'm quite suprised you only had two songs and two genres to choose from.

Keep up the Physics though!

Haha, good stuff!

There are quite a few people on here who are either doing Physics/Engineering in College/Uni, or who do it as a career.

I'm pretty sure there have been studies that show, fairly conclusively if I remember, that spacial reasoning ability and musical ability are closely related and that an increase in the use of one helps out the other. I didn't word that very well, but I think you folks should be able to understand. I'm wondering if your brain remembers sounds and tones in the same manner it remembers locations; seems reasonable.
