Hey everyone. I'm ment to be writing 'I'm so lonesome I could cry' with the lyrics and chord notation. I've written most of it up, I know what the chords are but my only but extremely annoying problem is that I have no idea what lines my crotchets and that sort of thing go on. I'm only used to that when I pluck strings holding frets and not chords. I'm ment to finish the write up by Friday so I'm wundering do any of you know a reliable site I can look up?

If you don't then do you know where chords C, Em, Am, G7, C7, Gm7, F or Fm6 are on the lines? I didn't think it'd be laid out that way for strumming but I looked in someone's guitar book and they were in notes and now I'm real confused, I'll look it up at school tomorrow if your as clueless as I am though.

Thanks for looking.

Are you talking about notating chords on sheet music?

You just put a dash across some of the center lines that represents the duration of the chord, and then put the chord name above that dash (but not if it repeats a few times, obviously).

Funny thing is, I can't find an image that illustrates this correctly!

Hope that helps.

I understand, I played like that before in bars. At first that's what I thought our teacher ment until he showed us a book and it had crotchets and minems under the chords. I'm not certain if he showed us a two part song where one guitar probebly strumed as another plucked or not though. I'll know for definate tomorrow when I look hopefully.

Heather - this is kind of an old post, but since I'm new here I'm just catching up on the threads.

Do you mean a rhythm or strumming pattern depicted on the sheet music, like in this random example I found using a google image search on "guitar strumming pattern"? ---

That's a pretty common way of notating rhythm guitar when you want to give more guidance than just writing out a single chord per measure and expecting the guitarist to ad-lib. But expecting the ad-lib is also pretty standard on lead sheets - in the U.S. we call that "comping".

@ Zapped, yeah I meant like that. I find this style a great way to play but I was desperately trying to figure our what they were with my chords so I could hand in my music on paper aswell as perform. Luckily my gguitar teacher found the real chords (I was playing the wrong ones for a while, dang!) and had it written like that but with the words underneath.

Thanks everyone, I forgot to say that ages ago and although it's overdue I should say it now.
