I play with D'Addarios. They have such a better sound than anything i have used especially when there new. Recently I changed from 10's to 9's, and today I changed to 11's. i lost tone going from the 10's to 9's, but gained volume on the 11's. They are hard to bend though and seem to big. Anyone else use 11's, and if they do why play such a heavy guage? |

I used Ernie Ball 10s but about two months ago I got a set of elixir strings. Let me just say I miss my Ernie Ball 10s. I guess that doesn't help you with your question at all, I just felt like throwing that out there. |

I have 10's on my guitar right now (got a free set of strings with the guitar), but I usually use 11's or 12's and have 13's on my acoustic.
I prefer heavier gauge strings because they seem to have a more full sound, and they also sustain better than lighter gauge strings. Plus when you go to the guitar store you can showboat on all the guitars since most stores string their guitars with 9's or 10's!
Heavier gauge strings are indeed harder to bend and play, but the more you practice with them, the faster you will get. If you're having trouble, try tuning your guitar down a half step or whole step. Many guitarists have used this trick to facilitate bending and playing on heavier strings. |

yeah the heaver the string the more sound you can get out of them. Which makes sence since the pickeus are magnetic...it has more metal to pick up.
SRV used 13's on a strat |
