Advice on an AMP

Well the vocalist for my band quit and took the amp I play out of with him. It was a mesa triple rec.....moment of silence for the loss.

Now I have a 600 dollar budget tops and need a good live sound. What should I do.

Whats the loudest or best option for me?

well. 600 dollar u got a cab? what music you play? classic rock id try a peavey windsor or maybe a peavey classic 30 watt, both are loud enough for gigs. both are reasonably priced.

can't go wrong with a marshall

lol. steal it! lol well if your playing blues fenders are perfect, BUT i find they suck with pedals, so if you playing anything with more distortion then it has dont buy it. marshalls are to expensive, well for a good one. take a peak at a used orange, they are good. also look at used gear. cheaper.

I spent about $250 and bought a used Peavey Deuce that had brand new speakers. Unfortunately, some of the electronics were in disrepair so I had to spend another $185 to fix it up, but it was well worth it. It's a beast.

It's got 2 12' speakers, 120w, and is all tubes. I played a gig at a local night club and it filled the entire place up with the volume at 2 - 3 (Which is actually kind of unfortunate because I'd really like to take it higher to get some really, REALLY nice tone. Guess I need to start playing auditoriums).

I haven't played too many newer Peavey amps, but I've also heard good things about them. I can't recommend them enough. Like EMB said, look at used gear as well as new gear, you might find a diamond in the rough.

My other recommendation when shopping for an amp, literally try everything in the store. I spent 6 hours playing guitars in a store until I found my ES-335, and that was after I had tried 335's at a few other stores already, as well as some used ones. The amp is the most important component next to the guitar, so be absolutely positive you're getting the right one.

go to pawn shops also, sometimes you can get stuff used like new for half price. or its really cheap because the previous owner didnt know how to fix some of the electronics

also i heard vox ac's are good, theres one around where i live for like 550. its from the 70s i think. i heard theyr pretty good.

For 600$ you're not going to find anything that holds a candle to a triple rectifier. But...

I work in a guitar store, from what I've seen your best option is by far the Kustom quad half stack, the head is 300$ and so is the cab. It blows the marshall mg half stack out of the water in every possibly way.

James Brown, (the amp designer, not the godfather of soul) designed the quad, when he left peavey he went to Kustom. You might know him for designing the 5150 I and II and the trans tube series. If you can find one to try, please do so, you wont be disappointed.

Thanks for the advice guys. The Kustom quad sounds ideal. Theres one on Ebay right now.
