I'm trying to make a smokey amplifier, and i found this chip off of an old mini radio, but i only know were to put the battery and speakers, i do not know were to put the input jack. if anyone could guide me on this, then i will be able to make me smokey amp, even though its going to be in a cheese container, anyways...Here is the pictures of the chip, both front and back, if anyone knows were to put the imput jack, please tell me, in some way, kthnxbai

Maybe one of those amplifiers that are in a cigerette packet? Looks like it since it;s about that size. - and well - you *smoke* cigerettes.
Just an assumption. |

@ Doz,
I just found them on Musicians Friend and sure enough that's what they are! good guess!
@ Musical_Magic,
I'm not sure you can do this with a circuit board from a radio but i'll check and see if i can find a schematic. meanwhile i may need the numbers from the top of the chip.

Well that didn't take long! I have found several design diagrams for the smokey amps, but it looks to me by the time you buy all the parts it would have been cheaper to just buy it outright. only 24.95.
Anyway i'll wait for the numbers on the chip and see if it can be done.

@ musical_magic
you see that little dodad there (MPF102)? That's a buffer and something that your radio board is not likely to have. it buffers the sound from the guitar to be fed into the amplifier chip (your radio will have that) through the volume control. Most likely you would have to install the buffer but there will be no room or provision for it on the circuit board. The volume control will be on the board but see the gain control? that is something that the radio won't have. not looking too good so far. too much work with questionable results. now having said that, the whole thing could be fabricated from scratch for slightly less than you would pay for a new one if you use your speaker and battery clip and volume control, but you won't have a case for it.
this is the url for the diagram and description in case we need it.

nevermind, the on/off switch is built into volume
control |
