Im so exited this site tools, improved my stuff in 2 days.
Well lets get to the point.
Ive started a new song which is E natural minor triads. (i dun yet fully understand those I II III IV stuff on it) but anyway. Song is something like melodic rock that ive made for scale practising purpose. just jamming...
I would like to hear your suggestions that what scale I should try on it? Ive tried E natural pure minor and it was fun, but maybe too straight... |

Try playing some weird scale then, with lots of random spaces between the notes. I can't think of one straight off, but just look for a name on the scale pages that sounds super random. |

You could try E Harmonic Minor, but that may be a little out there for a melodic rock. It tends to sound a little "darker".
How about E Melodic Ascending? Or maybe E Pentatonic Minor?
But Veqq's suggestion is fine as well. Just pick something kind of random, and if you like what you found, you could use that. It'd be a good way to use a cool scale that you might have not learned somewhere else. |

And that is the problem with the random stuff... You could also toy around and make your own.
Or... Use 3 different modes of E, Ionian, Phygrian and... Dorian or what ever you want. Through in a harmonic minor maybe. And then get 1 note of the triad out of each one... Or, have the major scale of the first, the 3rd and the 5th. Then get the 1st from the ast scale, the 3rd from the next and so on... I'm not sure what it would sound like but it would be sweet. |

I'd recommending using some of the different modes (Mixolydian, Phrygian, Dorian, etc). I usually stay away from the "foreign scales" because often times they're adapted to guitar from some instrument that deals in microtones or something like that, so they sound kind of funky. |
