Ok, I don't want to seem like a newbie, but I have run into a brick wall. It seems I suck at playing songs. As in other peoples songs. I can never seem to master more then the first few notes before I mess up. I practice a hell of a lot too. I never really noticed because the first couple of years I was learning theory and scales. It's kinda sad in my opinion when I can play any major scale, and minor pentatonic at 180bpm forward, back, and coiled with out a mistake. But I can't play a simple song.
Any suggestions? |

Dude maybe you cuold try just listening to the song while playing at the same time or like maybe just start with something simple like Iron Man or something just trying to keep it at the same pace as tbe recording, |

I've tried that, and it seems to work... while i'm listening to the song. Lol, but once you get me away from that backing track down the hill I roll. That is a good suggestion though for new people to help with timing, but Hooked on phonics didn't work for me. Neither did this lol. |

Keep on practicing, making sure you're not to tense. Try not to think *too* hard about what you're doing so that you don't pressure yourself. |

I am trying to learn Cowboys From Hell by Pantera ... That song ain't no piece of cake. Just keep practicing. Practice slow at first, then when you can do it clean with no mistakes, speed it up gradually more and more until you can play it at the correct speed. Also, it does help to practice the song in "sections" instead of trying to learn the whole song as one chunk, learn it bit by bit. Good luck |

i think you need to practice damn slowly and then, when you feel it perfect start playing it faster |

I ran into that same problem... :/
If you get some program to play just the riff your working on, have it play with you, and just play over and over, and then increase the speed a little, increase it (I would suggest the Power Tab program, and the jam thingy here might work too). Do that for every riff and then remember the order and stuff, and then just play to the song a few times... And...ya... Not much though. :/ |
