Chorus Pedals

Hey folks, 'tis your bestest friend the rave-on.

It's my birthday in a couple o' weeks - sweet seventeen. I wanted to ask for a chorus pedal to enhance my set-up but there seems to be such a range I don't know where to start. I went into my local music shop today and did an A/B test with the Boss Ch-1 Super Chorus vs. Digitech X-Series Multi Chorus. I have to say I was quite surprised to find that the digitech sounded far superior to the Boss which I thought was really thin and had very little chorus effect in it.

Anyways, I want a chorus that is really capable of giving the sounds from the 80s, think along the lines of Whitesnake, Police (who I know used an original chorus-sorry can't budget for that), Pink Floyd, you know those really thick lush sounds. ANYONE GOT ANY RECOMMENDATIONS?
