Hey everyone,

Okay so I know I must have posted like two posts before about recording gear before (you might want to kill me after this one, I understand) but now my dad's finally agreed to let me get something come christmas so I can share some covers and my own music with you. But he's insiting we get a microphone that plugs into my computer. He's getting one soon but I think it might be a bad idea because I think I've heard somewhere they've pretty bad sound quality?

The have USB condenser mics now. That sounds like it would be perfect for you. Great for micing acoustic guitars. Samson makes one. And I think Blue does too. There are some others. I think they call them podcaster mics or somthing.

I just happened to have my sweetwater catalog open in front of me here. lets see...

Rode Podcaster
Alesis Podcasting kit
Audio technica at2020 USB
Samson C01U
Samson C03U
Put any of these about 6-12 inches away from your 12th fret and will sound fairly good for what it is.

Thanks, this WOULD have been very useful and I would be thinknig of the Samson CO1U. But apparently my dad's already got me a microphone, it was nice of him to try and suprise me don't get me wrong...only, now he's saying he doesn't want me to see it or try it out, not until christmas because it's my present (and apparently I don't give enough good hints for presents like that anymore). And now I'm worriedd that if it's a bad one it will be too late to take it back. So, fingers crossed I can test it out before then or it turns out to be a good USB anyway!

I have the samson c01 and c03. they were my first mics. They weren't the USB ones though. They sound pretty good for the money, but they have a little bit of self noise.
Hopefully its a good one he got ya! And not a 5 dollar bob barker looking computer mic! lol.

Make sure it works, so much better than the alternative.
