Writing Music

I started playing this past Jan and I evolved from playing twinkle twinkle little star to writing my own music. After about 4 months, I started to record tracks. I am playing mostly blues to light blues if there is such a thing. I play in most of the major keys A, B, Bflat, E, G, and C for blues and I have experimented with keys like Amaj7, Gmaj7, G, C, Emaj7, AmHarmonic. Much of my music is mythodic or very soothing. I guess it is written people my age...40's. I feel really good now about my leads, rhythms, and percussion. I not so happy with my Bass lines. Typically I am just playing qtr notes, whole notes. What would you all suggest I do to add a little flavor to my base line to add a little zip to my music.

You have to walk the bass line. It is the only way.

Thanks for your suggestion. I have to admit I did not know what you ment by walking the bass line so I had to do some homework. If my understanding of walking the baseline is correct, that means you would start out with the root note on the dominate beat (1). Then you could walk up the chord. For example, lets say I was doing a slow blues song in the basic key of G with a slight twist.

G7 //// C9 //// G7//G#7// G7//// C9 //// C9 //// G7// Am7// Bm7//Bbm7// D9//// D#9//D9// G7//C9// G7//D7//

On Rhythm I would play the following positions:

G7 barr 3rd fret
C9 3nd fret middle four strings
G#7 barr 4th fret
D9 5th fret middle four strings
Am7 5th fret but mute the A string don't play the high E
Bm7 and Bbm7 same finger position as Am7 but 7th and 6th fret

so now for the base line walk:

if I wanted to walk from G7 to C9 would I do R, 3, 5, b7 or R, 3, b7 (Transional note) common between G7 and C9

One way would be G B D F C E bB D
Other way would be G B F D C ....

I have some tracks that I have written in guitar pro and I wonder if you know a better program. I`m not able to some recordsso don`t recommend that please

Its funny I came here today to ask if any one has ever used guitar pro 5 because I am considering to buy it to write my music better. I do it the old fashion way right now (paper and pencil). Would you recommend Guitar Pro 5?

I use Cubase SX to record. I really dig this program. If you don't have a full band you can get some realistic precusion sounds. The downfall with this program is that you can not write music with it and its a little pricey. There may be better programs that do both. I am not aware of them.
