Reverbnation is a nice site for uploading music. It is not as limited as myspace in quantity of songs and you can include the reverbnation widget on your myspace page, facebook, your website, etc. You can also create custom playlist and give links to them. See below.
You can also put an email form on your website, put show dates (and include the list on your website), etc. And you can send out formatted emails to your fan list - all free - which is pretty affordable.
Here are a few tunes. I am re-recording several elements of American Dream - the first song on this list.... drums and the lead break.

I am simply re-working the mix on the others.
Enjoy! I am off to record. Playing tomorrow evening 2 hour gig and then Sunday at the Glendale Folk & Heritage Festival. Yes, I know my music is not folk - but when not recording it is all acoustic. |

Matt,
I love the songs. I love the arrangements, the melodies, and the lyrics. I also love the sound of your guitar and your voice.
However, your attack on the guitar and your voice sounds like you are playing to a click track. I would try to loosen up a bit on the guitar and singing and play and sing more freely. These are beautiful songs with meaning and they should flow.
Trust me, you're much better than I am as a writter and performer but I do consider myself a pretty good critic. That is if you don't mind a little criticism?
Anyways, good luck tomorrow at your event! If I lived out there I would definitely come out and see ya! |

Thanks.
Hmmm - well, I don't play to a click per se but do play to a drum track - so that I have 8ths and 16th notes. I'll see what I can do.
Although, upon listening, it might be less my guitar and vocals that are too regimented but the bass and drums - which are computerized. One thing I have not mastered is the quantization of drums - which will move drum hits a micro-touch before or after the beat and vary the velocity (how hard they are hit). By doing that, you can greatly increase the humanization of computerized drums.
The biggest challenge when playing to a set rhythm is that you need to maintain time - because other instruments are brought into the mix on a fixed time.
Vocally - and when I play live - very much a loose/free flowing style. Mostly because it is just me - no band, etc.

Thanks for the input, though - both the criticism and the compliments - very helpful. I'll repost when new tracks are uploaded.

You're right! I checked that out on youtube and you are a lot more free flowing!
And, yeah it's all about dynamics when it comes to acoustic music. Having the bass and drums recorded digitally makes it that much more difficult to sound loose in the overall recording. I had this problem when recording a blues solo over digital bass and drum tracks. for me it was pretty easy to just grab the whole track and drag it just a hair pass the beats.
Anyways, I'm glad if I could help. Again, everything sounds great! I like to see how I could help you to sound even better! Maybe that's why I never finish anything. Always struggling for perfection! |
