Chord progressions

(im a little confused)

Is a chord progression a set of chords wich you can a solo/melody over?

For example (very easy) |C-Am-F-Dm| If you play that you can play a solo in C major right!? so is that a chord progression?

You are absolutely right about what a chord progression is; with the one you've written you can also play D minor over the top, as all those chords fit into D minor/F major as well as C major.
