Looking at new guitars

I'm mostly looking at Hollow-body and Semi-hollow body guitars, and I'm shooting for that warm, jazzy-tone. I've already taken a look at a D'Angelico EX-DC which I fell in love with and am probably going to buy. I also tried out an Epiphone Casino and some Ibanez Artcore guitars. I'm looking for guitars in the $800 - $1000 range, something that will last me a long time. I've already got an Ibanez S470 DXQM, but that's more suited for overdrive and heavier stuff, and now I'm progressing into swing and latin. Anything else I should look at?

I'd go Artcore for my money my friend has one and it does have a very good tone

I agree with Pusher those Artcores are amazing guitars!
They are beautiful guitars too.

they are some sexy axe's I just went to play earlier and ther made me feel right the Artcores did so I stick wiht my original thesis

The artcores are definately good guitars for the money, and even then they seem pretty underated. A local music store had a cream one with gold hardware for about $900 bucks a while back that I really liked, but it was sold pretty quickly.

Right now it's between the D'Angelico and some kind of Artcore, though I'll probably try out that Gretsch tomorrow.

The one I'm looking at is Wine Red. They're pretty expensive though, so I figured I'd see what else was out there.

The reviews on UG I read a while back were pretty good too.

I was thinking about that to a while back. I want a holow body and was going to go with a dot but i'm not really impressed with them after playing one.

I was leaning toward the ibanez's (playev very nice) i think it was an af75 ($400)or something. I would also like to check out the PRS SE hollow.

I heard that Epiphone DOTs are like wicked awesome though.
Unless it depends on the genre of music that you're playing?

Just got back from guitar center. Tried the gretsch that you recommended skold and liked it just fine, although the knobs weren't very intuitive and I had to fiddle with em for a while. The had another version of the guitar with a fuller body which was also really nice. I also played a Gibson 335 which was like a dream...that costs about $2000...So far the guitars in the 900-1000 range seem to be closest to what I'm looking for.

I forgot all about Gretch they make a fantastic hollow body, I've played a White Falcon once it was worth $6000 and it was dreamy, I've played a 355 before and it was astounding but it didn't feel that great due to the old strings

the gibson 355's really are nice, my dad just bought one, and they play really nicely... Maybe an epiphone one would be more in you r price range?

Actually, My guitar teacher's son is selling a 335 for $1500, so I think I may go over and try that out.

go for it man its an investment you won't regret the 335's are very swank guitars man and they beg to be played

Yeah, only $400 bucks more. When I've already got $1100 for the D'Angelico, what's another paycheck, haha.

You should take a look at some of the Gibson hollow bodies

I'd like to, but I haven't been able to find any in my area (except the one my guitar teacher owns, which is beautiful and also $5000). I think it's probably between this D'angelico EX-DC ($1100) and the Gibson 335 ($1500 - $1700).

Well if you want a good quality one but one step down from Gibson you can alway get an epiphone which are cheaper but still great

Epiphone Elitists are supposed to be good, but other than that, the Epiphone's I've tried don't seem to compare to these two guitars.

Now here's a guitar I'd love to own: Moog Guitar. I dunno if anybody here is interested in Moog, or follows the tools they create, but take a look at this gem. It's kind of ugly in my opinion (though it definately has the moog feel in the design). YouTube "Moog Guitar" to get an idea of the how this beauty sounds (skip the silly kid shredding on it, he doesn't even touch on the capabilities of this thing).

I don't know about Epiphones, I think there is just too much variance in the craftsmanship and you can get a good one or a bad one. I hear Gibsons are the say way. I have played several and i was not over impressed with the mid to low level guitars. My brother has a custom epiphone paul and it's great to play but the pickups are muddy and there are some paint defects (paint does not come all the way to the binding on the front lower curve by the controls) I think for a $500-600 guitar you should expect more. the moog looks nice but out of my budget. I'll put stock in PRS!!!
