Guitar sound

Does it effect the sound of your guitar to have the covers over the humbuckers. I was thinking about taking them off if it would make my guitar sound better.

hmm I don't think so, I think it would improve the sound as there normally all metal and they touch the poles of the hums allowing a bigger surface area (This is just from looking at them, I've never used one or read up on the difference) But I just think the covers look kick ass :)

I agree I like the way they look, but if it would make my guitar sound better I was going to take them off. I can see what you are saying and it makes sense.

I don't think it has *much* effect. I've never heard about it changing the sound - and yeah, they do look nice covered.

He means the plate covers that you often see on the pickups.

This is total off the topic but I didn't want to start another forum. If I wanted to upgrade my humbuckers what would be the best choice for rock? My guitar has Alnico Classic Humbuckers.

seymour (butts lol) duncans are gr8, but alnico classic are good also

I dont know about the covers. I dont think it makes a difference. Seymour Duncans are good. Combine them with a Marshall tube or Peavey even Vox and your sound is complete. At least it would for me.

Ya i'm almost positive the covers make no difference.

they dont...if anything taking them off will help your sound....unless you have a semi-hollow body...because the covers can actually vibrate and screw with your tone. so just makes sure they are on tight if you leave them on. if youve got a semihollow id leave them on, because the more mass the guitar has the bigger the sound.
