I have never played an SG but I think they are awesome looking guitars. I love my LP but I'm kinda thinking about trading it in on an SG after I play one and if I still like them based on how it sounds and not only on looks. I know this is personal preference but what are your opinions LP or SG? |

well the only thing i can say about a lp vs sg is that the sg has double cut outs so you have access to the bottom of the fret board. just something to think about, but like you said it all comes down to personal preference. |

I think the SG's can be a little neck heavy where the LP's are just heavy. |

yeah good point telecrater the sgs are neck heavy. when wearing a strap with one they always wanna tilt down. |

The ESP Viper, a niiice looking guitar. Problem is, I heard they're not too versatile. |

I've heard that too, but after playing one myself...well they are just amazing guitars. good for any style of rock/metal/blues/fusion you play. extremely versatile and play very fast. |

After checking them out I don't think I will trade my Les Paul for a SG. The SG was to light and like you said telecrater it was neck heavy, I also didn't like the flat top. The one I liked best was the faded G-400 in worn brown color for 300 dollars, But I gave twice that much for my Les Paul. I would still like to have the SG but not going to trade my LP for it. |

The irony here is that it's called a "Solid Guitar". |

sg in epi isnt the best, try it in gibson, even if u dont want to afford it, try it, its fantastic sound. not worth it to buy an epi sg u gotta go all th3e way to a gibson |

I would love to have that kind of money to throw around in the guitar shop, but I don't. I think I'll buy the Epi and use it for drop tuning. Sounds like a good excuse to buy another guitar. At least thats the story I'm going to tell my wife :p |

The guitar shop near me last year had an Epi SG that played and sounded better then ALL the Gibsob SGs in the shop at that time. I would have bought it but didn't have the extra cash at the time. Just go and try as many as you can till you find the right one. |

It is better investment to buy a Gibson SG over the Epiphone ones, But they are too expensive in my opinion. I would rather buy an expensive Les Paul over an expensive SG because of the tone quality. An SG is a pretty basic guitar. Angus Young said he only played one because "Strats didn't have enough balls" Which means they they lack the tonal quality of Gibsons. I still prefer Strats.Think SRV,Jimmy Hendrix, and Clapton. |

I used to love the SG. I went off it before I bought one. I'd prefer a LP style guitar. And over that, just a sleek superstrat for me. |

I'm sold on my LP. I was thinking about trading it off for something else because that's what I do I trade a lot on anything, but I looked around in the guitar shop and I didn't find anything that fit my style as well as my LP. |

Well I have an SG Because I like the sound and I play alot of Heavy Metal, Les Paul is a Hard Rock guitar, SG is a heavy Metal Guitar, well that's my opinion anyways trust me I've played both Les Paul and SG, Sg's also have a darker sound and bass type, while Les Pauls are Treble Guitars, this is how I see it
Les Paul Guitar's are like Guns and Roses, and Led Zeppelin
SG's are like Frank Zappa and Black Sabbath. |

SG's use to be called Les Pauls when they first came out but Les didn't like them, at least thats what I've read. Then Gibson called them SG for Solid Guitar |

You're both wrong. Les Paul was a very far sighted man. He called it his "Shred Goglin"!
S**t! That was supposed to say Goblin! |

can you even stand up when ur 92??? much less hold a LS...i dunno i think he might be faking it...a guy plying guitar at age 92...i see arthirtis, back pain, althizmers and all that stuff as a possible hinderance to one guitaring abilities...
Do you think a guy with arthiritis can use hammer-ons????????
Then again...he could have a LP Old Guy Standard.. i heard those are pretty ... made for old guys ...
I'm probably going to get shot for saying that... |

Chuck Berry still plays in St. Louis fairly often. He's not 92, but he is still pretty old. I heard he can still duck-walk too. |

Kay, I know someone with both a gibson SG & LP therfore I play boht rather frequently, I like the Sg mor simply because the LP weighs a ton and is a little bit inacscessible for my hands. That said I frankly prefer the ES355 that thing plays like a goddess. |

I tried one out yesterday I liked it a lot better than the Epi SG, the SG's neck was way to thick and the body was to thin. |
