I wanted to get some input on modeling Amps.

I'm in the market for a new guitar and amp. I have been looking at some of the features of the line 6 spider, Vox Valvetronix, and Behringer V-Tone. Does any one have one of these amps?

I have a Johnson J station for the last couple of years and I'm fairly happy with it as far as using it to record some sounds directly into my computer. The sounds i use the most on the jstation are the blackface, brit combo(vox copy), brit stack(marshall copy), tweed(fender), and hightwattage (hiwat).

It will mostly be used for practice but would like something that i could jam with. Jstation is not going to cut it.

Thanks all...

Another option could be a guitar work station like the Digitech GNX range. I have a GNX 3 and it models all of the popular amps and cabs. It also has the full range of popular effects, an expression pedal, simulations of the most famous guitar 'sounds' and a built in 4 track digital recorder (excellent for jamming with/to).

My opinion is as follows

Line 6 Spider: bad choice, but mainly at high volumes
Vox Valvetronix: good choice, versatile but I'm not sure how they are when cranked

Don't know about the Behringer... but from the amps you use I reckon the Vox can do you well.

Hey Doz,

What model do you have a Vox? and if so what wattage?

I want something to be able to jam with drums with, but It can't be too big. figured no bigger that a 2x10.

Thanks for the input guys. I think i'm going to hit guitar center this week and try some stuff out

I was thinking $300 or so, i could go up to $400. but if i did that I think i would lean toward a tube amp.

You should be able get a good enough Vox VT somewhere around there. Have a look round though.
