Jim Dunlop Jazz III picks are the best for speed picking imo.
.48 mm is good if you need like fast strumming (like in punk songs.)
.73 mm is like in between, I use them for, well since I just learned about it, picking arpeggios in a song, and strumming the full chords too.
.88 mm are great for playing like metalica stuff. Kirk uses .88 mm's on the fast stuff - If you use light picks your hand will wear out faster from trying to keep up. Especially if you want to play like Master of Puppets or Through The Never, etc.
1 mm I don't let my friend use, he strums wayyy too hard and I know he will mess up my strings so I tell him to use the .48's
And that's what I have to say about it :)
Have a nice day !

GuitarSlinger, what are they like ?
If they rubber wouldn't they kinda like, not go over the string as quick ? Cause like the plastic ones go over right smooth cause of their surface being a bit smoother. I wouldn't know though I never used 'em. The way I picture it is, its like taking a pick and putting a rubber glove over it and playing. How can you make good sound ? |

lol...its not quite like a rubber glove hehe...it doesnt slow down your playing at all...the rubberized coating is mainly for grip. i sometimes actually rub some sand paper on my picks to scratch them up a bit because it gives it a really edgy sound thats great for screeching solos but its not so good for shredding. the picks also have a flat edge which makes pinch harmonics so easy...where as most picks have a tapered or pointed edge. also these picks last forever without wearing down! im very picky with my picks (no pun intended hehe) and as soon as they start to wear down i get a new one. but ive been using the same pick for a month now i think and it hasnt worn down hardly at all! and i play guitar around 6 or 7 hours a day at least. these picks really rock. you should try 'em out and see if you like them.

I've been using Dunlop Gator .71 mm. for about a year now. Not too thick, not too thin. Lots of grip. I find licking my fingers when they are really dry gets them back. |

Are those the yellow ones? I would assume that if you went to one of those mega-guitar stores they would have all of Dunlop's picks. I bought a pack of Dunlop Tortex 1mm. Too stiff for me. and the yellow Tortex were too floppy. |

As in choice to play? Most people enjoy heavy picks for the stability. For availability in stores, I usually see them in the local Sam Ashs and Guitar Centers. |

I was going through my pics the other day and i came across a yellow tortex and also i found a orange one as well, the yellow .78 isnt that bad but not as sharp as my stubby but then my stubby doesnt last very long ,i mean like 1 hour then its dull, but the tortex (.78)seemed to hold up pretty good. |

I've found Tortex Sam Ash and Fender picks (or any other cheaply made ones) wear away - way too fast.
The Gator series seems to last, especially if you move to the thicker ones.
I've been tempted to try the Jazz III picks, just need to buy myself a pack. |

Jazz III picks are really good. very very good for speedpicking and stuff that doesn't require like up & down strumming (like in punk rock) But if you are gonna play like arpeggios, leads, speedpicking, etc. use Jazz III, for strumming, use big picks so your fingers don't hit off the strings cause after a while it hurts like hell :( |

Oh no I mean like my first knuckle of my index finger.
I love doing pinch harmonics, especially when people hate high pitches at loud volumes... It's fun :) |

I can not do it an acoustic for shiz. I don't really play acoustic, I can just use a clean sound and get a really close sound. |

i love pinch harmonics! i play them different on acoustic though. i scrape the nail of my index finger on the string instead of my thumb. |
