Do other guitarists combine scales? For instance use an Ionian#5 with a regular major scale to produce a scale that is major with a chromatic #5 passing note?

What would this scale be classified as?

Another is using a melodic minor in place of a Dorian scale. This will produce a Dorian with a chromatic note between the natural 7 and root.
