That's totally depending on what kind of music you play, for pure metal, some ppl say there is no better pickups than the active EMG's. And also it is not just the brand, it is also a whole lot of different models so you've gotta make your question more precise.
For myself I love my gibson p-90 pickups =)

Yeah, Mightydave is probably right, the active EMG's has quite a push. But if you're not pleased with the sound you maybe should buy a new amp? Because that pickups should really be enough ;)

i use Emg's. they are the most versatile pickups out there...i can play anything from jazz to metal and they still sound great...

I have a question about pickups as well. I bought an Ibanez this summber with a humbucker-single coil-humbucker set up and I want to replace the stock pickups. I am looking for a wicked heavy metal lead sound. I am thinking about the dimarzio evolution set, like what Steve Vai uses but if anyone has any other suggestions I would appreciate it.

well the thing about that, i have emg 81 and 85 on my other guitar, should i try like an emg 81 and 90, with one of their single-coils? i dont want the exact same sound as my other guitar, but and equally kickass one....oh and while i have your attention, i listened to some of your music and was wondering what sort of hardware and software you use to record/mix your stuff?

also, how do i rig up the battery in a guitar that doesn't naturally have emg's, my other guitar is a schecter and came with a built in compartment for the battery...
