Lydian Blues?

Maybe this has been covered but I just discovered it myself. It might have been facilitated by listening to Guthrie Govan.

Anyways.
In the Lydian scale you can use the perfect 4th as a 'blue note'.
I like to bend the 4th up to the #4. It gives your licks some attitude! (you can also use the b7 in the same way, bending it up to the 7th.)

I suppose this is might be a bebop kind of thing but when I do it, it sounds like stuff George Benson does a lot as well.

Any thoughts?

oh and I forgot to mention it's not limited to Lydian. So far I've experimented in Dorian too. I'm pretty sure you'd be able to use it in any mode.

In my head, my thought process goes like this.
Take an important note, and flat it. In Lydian the #4 is a really important note so the 4 is the blue note.

In Dorian you can add the b6, major 3rd (which is the 4th/'blue note' of Lydian) b5 works too of course but not really the way I'm using it here (adding b5 to a minor scale is basically blues'ing it... so not really anything new) which is bending up a half step and then resolving to a "in note". Maybe I'm not playing it right but the b5 isn't giving me 'that sound'.

maybe this is just the door to fusion that has been avoiding me. Anyways try it out!

thats a pretty cool idea. I have also been experimenting with the bending of notes from outside a scale up to a note that is inside it. it sounds pretty awesome in most cases. I will definitely try this out though. thanks! ^_^

There isn't a Lydian blues scale. Just Major/Minor blues scales. It's a Lydian b7 which is related to the melodic minor scale.

One concept is that any note naturally leads to the next note on the fretboard.

Says who? /:) Tell that to Joe Satriani. You just take the spirit of blues and it's blues.

1,2,3,4,#4,5,6,7 is most definitely not a major/minor or mode of melodic minor.

Just Lydian with a 4th as a blue note/passing tone.

I guess you can do a Lydian Blues scale/Dorian Blues.
If it's not published somewhere people accuse you of the note not being relative.
