i enjoy the bass line in muse's hysteria. very fast and fun.

i heard a song the other day in my brother's car... i think it's called "bad business" by phantom planet (pre-that actor guy being in the band). it has a very ska-like bass line. i like it.

punk bands have the best bass lines.

Charles Mingus – Haitian Fight Song
The Clash : Guns of Brixton
and basically any early Primus
Skip to 2:00 and watch for two minutes. Then try at 6:25.
This is before Les Claypool was playing 6-string bass.

And much more recently.

i recommend the album "absolution" 2003 i think? their new stuff is okay, not great. their old stuff is awesome, not groundbreaking. but absolution? one of my top 3 albums of all time (it combines my love of dystopian science fiction with dystopian alt rock)

All amazing picks! I give props to btimm and phip :) 46 and 2 is my fav tool song and jazz is always great!

Heres my entries: Okay so my computer isn't letting me embed today so Ill just name them; "Stellar"-Incubus, a lot of folks consider them pop and not really musicians... I beg to differ, they have incredible melodies and harmonies and the bassist and drummer are on time perfectly with each other. Just listen to this song and you will see what I mean. Plus the improvs and the end of each chorus from the bassist is why I chose this song for this topic.

Next: "No Ones There"-KoRn... I know its simple, but its so powerful. I have always liked KoRn, and I use to hate this song until recently. For some reason it just really "hits home" with me during this time of my life. The beginning with the bass line gives me chills every time I listen to it, and I just go crazy when the drums come in after the breakdown.
