Elliott, if a large man in a black outfit and ski mask comes to your door, just give him those Beck/Clapton tix and all will go very smoothly. lmao. But really, LUCKY. I wish I could see Jeff Beck. He's probably one of my favorite players. |

who i've seen recently (since graduating college, last 4-5 years):
MUSE at the pageant --- awesome show
radiohead at riverport --- awesome, despite being at riverport (aka umb bank pavilion)
the ting tings at the pageant --- that was a good one
matt & kim at off broadway --- KICK ASS show
ska is dead 4 (deals gone bad, voodoo glow skulls, mustard plug, and the toasters) at off broadway
electric 6 at the firebird --- terrible venue in st louis, but one of the most fun shows i've been to
going to see:
jemina pearl at the firebird (2/20)
tegan and sara at the pageant (4/24)
EMB you should have seen muse back when they weren't as big. they played at the pageant in st louis which holds maybe 10,000 people, and it ROCKED. but they are going for this whole super-popular arena rock thing now, the next time they play they will probably be in the dome or a sports stadium that holds 50,000. not my kind of concert. the smaller the venue, the better the show in my opinion. i don't want to sit in 2 hours of traffic trying to leave a concert where i could barely see the performers... |

Domigan_Lefty says: New Found Glory. Yea... punk fags, so what...
half of that might be true but don't you dare refer to new found glory as a "punk" band. it spits in the face of all of the actual punk bands and pretty much everything that punk music stood/stands for (because it is still in existince, you just have to look for it).
there's a reason i loathe green day. green day used to be an actual punk band with one of the best "punk/rock" albums of all time (dookie) and then they turned all wussy and pop and political, and people call them punk music because billy joel armstrong has black hair and eyeliner and then whines about republicans. here's a hint: IF YOUR ALBUM IS TURNED INTO A BROADWAY PLAY, YOU ARE NO LONGER A PUNK BAND.
this is a touchy subject for me. bianca butthole is spinning in her grave. |

Almost all of the early/mid sixties Mersey beat bands (except the Beatles). That's 'cause I was lucky enough to have a mam working in catering at the Leicester University. I also saw what was then an up and coming young band called 'The rolling stones.' I wasn't too impressed with them 'cause Jagger thought it was great fun to stamp on anyone's hands if they rested them on the stage.
I just missed seeing Deep Purple Mk 2 at the Hull University in 1970. They had to cry off 'cause Gillan had laryngitis.
Around the same time (1970'ish) I saw The Who perform the concert that formed the bulk of their material for the album that became 'The Who - Live at Leeds'.
Next I saw Free at an 'all night rave in'(early predecessor to a rave)at the Burton Constable Hall near Hull where I live. Paul Kossoff was amazing on guitar. I use his image as my avatar with pride!
Whilst in the RAF (1971 - 1975) I saw The Hollies,The Blue Jays (Moody Blues offshoot band) and Slade. Best of all I saw 'Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars at Manchester. It was the original Lin up with Mick Ronson on Guitar. My God could he play! RIP Mick!
Oh, I forgot to mention, David Bowie was the singer (No where near as impressive as Mick Ronson!). |

Yeah, Geesh Elliott! Didn't you buy enough tickets to take us all? I would LOVE to see Beck/Clapton and if you're paying; well, that's all the better! C'mon, take your big buddy to see Beck.......(Ozzy too).

@EMB
Don't go wishing your life away! Just think, what goes around comes around. One day people are going to be sick up to the eyeballs with boy bands, girl bands and rap crap. They're going to be looking for something a little more fulfilling and you'll be there waiting, axe in hand!
Just think of the frustration people of my age feel. We saw all the great bands but were just to young to join them. By the time we were old enough and good enough, things had moved on and a new generation of guitarists were playing at about 200mph. We were always just missing the boat! You really needed to be born in the mid 1940's to be part of the '60's rather than just an observer. |

i mean like your time zone. like idk your exact age. but id really like to be born around when dio was or ozzy. be there for the 60s. and be apart of the 70s and 80s. i honestly wouldntmind just watching and having a job in the 70s. ust to live then. |

just close your eyes and imagine....................
Elliott and Deefa's Excellent Adventure!!!!!!!!!!!
Two hip dudes from the twenty first century travel back in time and kidnap famous rock stars from the 60's and 70's and bring them back to Elliott's spacial, yet not overly ostentatious, den for one big MOTHER Jam session! What a movie!
I've phipped Elliott many times, but this is a first for Deefa. LOL
enjoy

carlsnow, you opened for FUGAZI?!?!?!?!? no effing way, ian mackaye is one of my idols. there are two bands that i regret having never seen live before dismantling, they are fugazi and the distillers.
i didn't see as many shows when i was in high school, so i didn't get to see a lot of my old favorites in concert before they broke up/stopped touring. all that punk rock that i grew up with (new found glory = wusspoprock. FUGAZI = punk) sort of faded away before i hit an age where i could start going to concerts.
but now it's nice to see them whenever i can, or check out youtube clips of past concerts that happened when i was 15.
---
st louis kind of sucks because it's a big city, but it's too close to chicago which is a bigger city (and has a richer indie music scene). so all of the cool concerts, if they even bother to hit the midwest, stop at chicago but not STL. i'm looking at you, LCD soundsystem...
---
"best" concert, i think my top 3 are:
MUSE "black holes and revelations" tour (2006) --- me and 3 friends got black out drunk and jumped and screamed for 2 hours at the pageant, an awesome small-capacity venue in the loop in st louis.
MATT & KIM (2009) --- lots of jumping and clapping at off broadway a very small venue in st louis with excellent sound engineering. kim crowd surfed |
