hello! my question is, what are the differents between the lydian, dorian,... etc. i mean, what are they sounding like? i know that they are sounding different...but i want to know HOW :) |

I am sure what you asked. If you want to learn about modes, get a back issue of Guitar World, June 2005. It has a great article on modes and can probably explain it better than I ever could. |

Thx :) i mean..for example when you have a key of c and youre playing the C Lydian..it sounds different than the C Aeolian...so you can choose between them :)
and i wanted to know, when do i take the Lydian or the Aeolian? (:for example:) |

It depends on what feel you want for the solo, and the song. If you want a dark minor sound, go with Aeolian or maybe Dorian. Bands like Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd used both these, and soloists like Jimi Hendrix (“Ezy Riderâ€) and Santana (“Soul Sacrificeâ€). Now, if you want a happier sound go with the major modes: Ionian, Lydian, and Mixolydian. These can be found in the music of the Beatles, Guns N’ Roses, and Cream. I hope this info helps. |
