so i wrote a nice lil chord prog today.. and i was wondering.. what exactly does it mean?

its:

Dsus 4, D, Dsus 2, Em7, Asus4, Asus2, A

and then the chorus is:

Am, C, Gm, Fmaj9 (no 3rd)

..so if anyone could tell me what kind of relation those chords have or what scale i should use to lead over those.. well i would be most appreciative.

Couldn't you solo with a minor pentatonic scale in the same key as the song, which I guess would be D?

you can play d major over the first one and then you can play f major on the chorus and following the chord notes

at another site i got the advise to use D major and then A minor..

but i want this to be a kinda complex song, so im lookin into using as much as i can without "having too many cooks in the kitchen"

well the Gm and the fmaj9 don't fit in the a minor , but you can play a minor over the first two of the chorus (and maybe gminor over the last two)

your song is good, but it would be better if you played fminor ninth(or cmajor ninth) then fmajor ninth in 2/2 then go back to 4/4 with aminor, repeat.

instead of eminor 7th just play eminor.

^ well you have to listen to how i play it to get the feeling i wanted out of it. theres a bit of hammering on & off through out the chording, so i really want to find a nice lead that flows with them nicely.

.. and most of the chords have a similar note played through them (D/sus2/sus4 and Em7 all share the same D [3rd fret B])

yeah, im pretty sure i fit the bill of being a hippie.. long hair, regular indulgence of psychedelics and grass, i have tie-dyed a few shirts and a bandana.. also, i have a peace sign tattoo on my gut, as well as the lorax (dr suess) on my arm.

i like alot of types of music.. rock, blues, reggae, folk, pschedelic, country (old good country), jazz, electronic music, grunge, classical, 60s english pop, some of the 60s american pop..

really i only dont like christian music, todays country, emo, punk, and rap that talks about selling drugs or hustling, or is degrading to women..

when im done with college i would like to just take what skills i have and run with it. i play harmonica and the jews harp also, and would like to put them into whatever im playing.

i figure itll be a odd mix of the experimental Pink Floyd (ummagumma), cream-era clapton, frank zappa, grateful dead (without donna), bob dylan, and lennon and harrisons work in the beatles after rubber soul..

but since im going to college to learn music in and out, ill probably write more like a composer than a rock band. planned out and well executed, not as "spur of the moment" as guitarists can really get.

im honestly more into instrumental music than writing lyrics, though i have a notebook or two full of songs.
