I recently have been thinking about getting a guitar amp. I have been using a Johnson j station plugged into my computer to play through but I've been wanting something better.
I have been cruzing down Craigslist and found a couple amps I'm kinda interested in. Being in a city with a million + there are a lot more options.
I did not really want to spend over $200 and really want to be able to play with drums but amp miking is alwasy an option. The two I have been looking at is a Vox Valvetronix AD30VT for $150 and the the other is a Fender Princeton Chorus Amp for $225.
I was driving on my way to get the Vox and then decided to turn around. not sure why. I might just hold off on an amp.
The thing is my new dot sounds awesome through an amp and has a nice woody hollow body sound but I can't really get that through my jstation. |

Try to find a used Fender Super Champ XD. 15 Watts, all tube, but it's got built in effects and amp voicings. I haven't tried it out, but I've heard a lot of good things about it.
They come $300 new, but you may be able to find a used one for less.

It's funny you talk about the champ. I have a friend who is going to get me a little fender amp. I think it's really old but I did some web dev work for him. But i need something with a little more guts than a 15 watt amp.
Here is the amp my friend is supposed to send me.
The best thing about buying used gear is that when you trade or sell it you can usualy get what you paid for out of it. Usualy used gear sells for about 1/2 what it cost new unless it's vintage.
Here is a pic of the fender princeton chours

That's the old Champ! Those are supposed to be real nice. I've got the Champ 600, which is a little 5 watt tube amp that looks very similar to the one you posted (but mines new :D). But probably too small for what you're looking for, but they've got a sweet tone.
If you want bigger, like 30 watts, then the Vox should be good for you, or maybe a Roland Cube 30X ($245 new). I haven't seen the Princeton before but I just looked up some reviews and they're supposed to be really nice as well. |
