That's a really good song. A C add b9 chord is C, E, G, and Db. I play the song using a C7b9(#11) instead, which looks like this:
E|--2--|
b|--2--|
g|--3--|
d|--2--|
a|--3--|
e|-----|
You can also drop the #11 and raise the F# to a G, to just make it a C7b9, which also sounds fine, and is a little easier to play.
The only way I know to play a C add b9 chord is like this, and it's a little bit out of the way I think for The Girl From Ipanema:
E|--8---|
b|--8---|
g|--9---|
d|--11--|
a|------|
e|------|
Hope that helps.

Like C9?
I think it's just like a C7 (which is made of C E G and Bb), but it adds the 9th note (in this case, D).
EDIT: Nevermind. I'm wrong. |

Aye, but the D is flat. By the way, what are you learning it from? |

thanx for all your help! c7flat9 is used in the song. i will give a try. learnin from a "fake book" hal leonard 4th addition. used to play by ear as kid 30 yrs ago. recently picked up again for "bucket list" accomplishment and between tab books and internet resources much easier to learn these days. will take official lessons when confidence level is up to it. |

I see. I'm using "The Real Book" Sixth Addition, so the chord progressions are probably pretty similar. |
