@ Foogered:-
Easy mistake to make though, he got famous in England and his bassist and drummer were British. |

Wahey! You used to be really into 80s hair metal, so I'm glad you've crossed over to the other side of 1990 now! :P |

dats hard coz british rock was in its prime in the old days 70's 80's 60's. but american rock probably rules the street now. BUT THERE IS AN EVEN BIGGER ISSUE AT HAND MY FELLOW MEN. THERE IS A PREDATOR AMONGST THE GREAT. THAT PREDATOR IS RAP,RNB,HIP HOP EVEN WORSE TECHNO, ELECTRO, DANCE. I SHALL OPEN A THREAD TO DISCUSS THE PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED ENEMY

I say British rock. Reason you can't beat Maiden these lads have brought uk British metal if you want to call it metal a long way but way back when purple was on the scene and rainbow uk was rocking out but the scene is dead now. Don't know why but you just can't uk rock in the old day I mean look at Saxon, Priest, Maiden, Deep Purple, Rainbow what more could you ask for. Try and name a uk band now is hard that has brought so much than these bands have over the years.
I also like the US bands as they have a totally different sound and playing style. |

BRITAIN ROCKS THE MOST!
Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Sex Pistols, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Eric Clapton, Queen, The Who, Def Leppard, The Beatles, The Clash, Billy Idol, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Motorhead. You cannot beat that list of names in rock! Pretty much all of the most influential rock bands are British withe the exeptions of Metallica, Guns N Roses, The Jimi cHendrix Experience and KISS!

I voted both at the start of the thread but after reading everyone's thoughts and considering the historical impact it has had on rock, I'm gonna have to say British. However, I'd have to say the most "recent" rock genre that has had a lot of influence on todays rock was grunge. And that's American. And if you add-in all the 90's rock bands that werent necessarily grunge you get this list:
Sound Garden, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, STP, Smashing Pumpkins, Hole, Puddle of Mudd, Creed, Everclear, Everlast, Faith No More, Counting Crows, Black Crows, Bush, Godsmack, Guns and Roses, Rage against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers....I could go on and on. |

Most of those bands cite British bands like the Who, Rolling Stones, and Sex Pistols as their influence. Its almost like the Chicken and the Egg analogy because early rock was influenced by the Blues. |

As far as I'm concerned, the Brits did it right. Zeppelin, Sabbath, Floyd!?!? Wow. Yeah, we had Hendrix, but those 3 changed music forever. |

i hate things like this but you all do know that almost every last English band is just ripping off some USA band that has been treated like * for years/decades and most still are hell the stooges are only just now getting credit for what they did. the only original English rock band that everyone knows i can think of are Syd barrett's band. man that guy was a genius only was around for a few years but inspired almost all of rogers songs.
and for those who think USA music sucks you do know that 90% of the time the best USA's music has never been pop when it was going on so what makes you think something amazing isn't going on right know just look for it you'll be surprised
disclaimer - i know you could find this band and that band but it is generally speaking |

Why does it matter? Honestly? Music is music, it's here, so just accept that it's here and appreciate that we've got a bunch of different styles, a sh!t load of bands and artists and overall great music. It doesn't matter about the counry, it's just humans at their finest.
Everyone copies someone, it doesn't matter where they were living at the time, it's just fact that anyone will create music from their inspirations. |
