Does anybody know any songs with a really funky rhythm. I just played funk 49 by Joe Walsh and really got in to it.
Edit: that sounds kinda funny after I read it but I haven't played anything with that kind of a feel to it before, I like it. |

There are loads of different styles of funk. Fast funk, slow funk, heavy funk, soft funk...
Check out the album Blood Sugar Sex Magik by RHCP. It is widely regarded as their best album, and nearly every song heavily features funk rhythms and grooves, and encompasses many of the afore-meantioned styles.

Anything by George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic.
Also, listen to the album "Mother's Milk" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
They take Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground", which is a pretty funky song to begin with, and put in a slap bass line. |

Wow, we posted that at EXACTLY the same time!
I was going to say Mother's Milk but while it's a good album, the funk is very much focused on the metallic side of things, whereas BSSM has a mix (Suck My Kiss --> funk metal, The Greeting Song --> fast funk, Sir Psycho Sexy --> Wah-soaked funk, Apache Rose Peacock --> slow funk). A real mixture of styles. |

I would check out some 70's grateful dead (Dancing in the streets)some early Phish had some funky styles. Even some disco or Motown and the theme from shaft.

Frusciante's playing on BSSM is much more funky as compared to their other albums. Very stripped down and "dry" sounding. |

The older guitarist of Chili Peppers was a little more funky then Frusciante I think. |

R-tard Frusciante was the old guitarist then they had Dave Navarro and one other guy but they have nowhere near the funk level of Frusciante anyways my suggestiong is try some Sly & The Family Stone or some Victor Wooten but I'll get my bass teachers oppinion because for a white guy he really knows some funk |

No, Hillel Slovak was the first guitarist, and he died in 1988. Get your facts right before you call someone else a retard...
brodyxhollow is right, Fungus Amongus, the Enjoy Incubus EP and S.C.I.E.N.C.E. are all really funky.
James Brown, Jane's Addiction, The Meters, if you like things a bit heavier then you could check out the funk metal of bands like Rage Against The Machine. |

Thanks everyone. I found some really good tunes from your suggestions. I was listening to Hendrix today and he has a lot of songs with funky rhythms. I have listened to him for a long time but just never really gave it any thought. |
