Open Tunings

So all open tuning really is is tuning the strings to form an open chord without fretting. Assuming we understand basic chord theory (Maj = (Root)1, 3, 5) you could technichly tune a guitar to form an open chord in any key. Granted the strings can only be so loose or so tight.

Some really common Open Tunings are:

The strings are ordered from low to high ie: normally E-A-D-G-B-E

G: D-G-D-G-B-D (Note: A banjo is tuneed G-D-G-B-D also Open G)

A: E-A-C#-E-A-E (Or try E-A-C#-E-A-C# for slide)

C: C-G-C-G-C-E (Very common in Metal)

D: D-A-D-F#-A-D

E: E-B-E-G#-B-E

There is obviously alot more out there try to expirement and try your own. I also listed only Major keys, if anyone would needs it I can post some minors or crossnote tunings.

Enjoy!
